Explore the Area

Instead of hurrying through this beautiful area of North Wales, why not take some time to explore the delights of the Conwy Valley, whilst staying with us at the Old Rectory.

conwy

Conwy
The medieval walled town of Conwy is so historically important it has been recognised as a 'World Heritage Site'. The walk around the top of the town walls is unique in Wales. Also in Conwy, is the recently restored Plas Mawr, one of the finest Elizabethan town houses in Britain. Conwy also contains the smallest house in Britain.

80 acres of magnificent garden

Bodnant Gardens
We are fortunate to have one of the worlds finest gardens only 3 miles away.

  • daffodils, spring bulbs, camellias, magnolias, early-flowering rhododendrons and cherries in March to early April

  • Rhododendrons are at their best mid-April and the spectacular Japanese and deciduous azaleas from mid-May. The famous original laburnum Arch usually flowers mid-May for 3 to 4 weeks.

  • Herbaceous borders, roses, hydrangeas, clematis and water-lilies from mid-June to September

  • Superb autumn colours from mid October onwards

Crafnant
Further down the valley, in the lee of the Carneddau mountains, is a mini "Lake District", with uncrowded walks for all levels of ability.

swallow falls

Swallow Falls
Only 14 miles further down the valley is the world famous "Swallow Falls" on the outskirts of Betws-y-coed. Here beautiful riverside and woodland walks can be enjoyed. The Conwy Valley also contains pre-historic burial chambers, Roman and iron-age forts, medieval churches and a victorian spa - a time capsule for all our guests.

Forget the car, 'Let the train take the strain'
Rail times from London Euston are approximately 3½ hours to Llandudno Junction, 2 miles from the Old Rectory. Within 200 yards of the station are Avis car hire, Tel 01492 585101. A railway line down the Conwy Valley links to the Ffestiniog narrow gauge railway, where there are wonderful walks from station to station in the heart of Snowdonia.

Conwy, Llandudno and Bodnant Gardens are all within 10 minutes ride by taxi.
